There is a lot of talk regarding Muslim women and their choice of religious wear. The teaching assistant Aishah Azmi whom teaches English was told she could wear the veil outside the classroom but not whilst teaching. Aishah Azmi insisted she had always been willing to remove the veil in front of children at Headfield Church of England junior school in Dewsbury,
It is said the children struggle to understand her. I feel regardless of her religious beliefs that surely in the role as a teacher it is important that they can speak clear understandable English and if a child cannot understand his or her teacher how are they expected to achieve their best. And at the tribunal it was agreed that it was for the childrens benefit that she was suspended and it was the right thing to do. Aishah Azmi was awarded £1,000 for the upset caused to her.
This would not seem so bad if it wasnt for the fact that the school is actually a Church of England School I cannot understand why a Muslim was allowed to teach in a religious school. I am pretty certain that if I was to attend a mosque I would not be allowed to wear my jeans and trainers because this would be classed as been disrespectful to Allah.
It is my personal view that religious wear should not be allowed if it means that any part of your face or mouth is covered up. I personal feel both threatened and intimidated by these women. I am considering purchasing a burka and wearing it for 1 week to find out how it feels to be hidden away and also how safe it actually is regarding driving and general day to day duties. If anybody has any views or opinions on this please contact me.
