Dunblane have we learn't? PDF Print E-mail

Monday marks 10 years since the massacre at Dunblane Primary School. Sixteen children and their teacher were shot dead by Thomas Hamilton in the school gym. He then turned the gun on himself.

This will never happen again or so we hope but the true fact is that schools are not the safe haven that we want or expect  them to be. Please do not let this happen again.

The goverment looks at schools as a performance table. Surely this is not the way, our children are more important than how they are achieving in subjects. Where is the money for better security measures, cameras, fences and general awareness from staff, pupils and parents these are all things that could help to protect our children.

School gates should be locked so nobody can get in or out without permission, security cameras should be installed so office staff actually know whom they are letting in and out. This is not a lot to ask for.

I have picked up my daughter from school and many times wondered exactly what would happen if somebody else had taken her first, I would kike to think that as a parent I have taught her the dangers but does a five year old fully understand what some people are capable of I think that most children wouldn't think school is unsafe, Mummy has asked them to pick me up for her or maybe parents would stop and ask questions but would they? we all have such busy lives have we really got time to question and some people would think they shouldnt be sticking there noses in.
