Why we have a refuse problem.
We are forced to throw away four times the baggage allowance on a jumbo jet in packaging material alone each year,
which the makers could do more to reduce at the point of manufacture. 2% of household rubbish is disposable nappies (you can still buy proper nappies), seventeen and a half billion plastic bags are given out by supermarkets each year (you can take your own durable ones and re-use them time and time again). Magazines and newspapers can be recycled but when it comes to cardboard then it is down to individual councils as to where plain or printed material will be taken! ( figures from Waste Watch). |
