£100 for assault.....One of the latest ideas to come from the ‘barmy army house’ (Home Office) is for instant fines of £100 for assault, mugging, theft up to £100, assaulting or obstructing a police officer, possession of cannabis or drunkenness. Not court mind you, just a fine. Quite rightly the 30,000-strong Magistrates’ Association says the proposals make a mockery of the criminal justice system and downgrade the gravity of offences that should go before the courts. Just what sort of insulated little world do the idiots that dreamt this up live in? This government seems intent on protecting the criminal from prison at any cost and is paying little regard to the victims of crime. |
