Divorce how many of these could have been avoided?
How many people are living in a fantasy world with unrealistic ideas of what family life really is?
TV & the Media surely have a role to play in how family life is portrayed.

Since been a young girl I have been brought up believing in a fantasy world that is not really there.
We start our children’s lives by reading fairytales and protecting them from the horror’s of what the world has to offer, this is human nature we obviously want to paint a pretty picture to our children.
As a teenage girl I spent many nights reading Sweet Valley High filled with Beautiful girls and Handsome boys who all live the fairytale life. My Dad used to complain that I was filling my head with rubbish and he was probably right.

We grow up and all look for the handsome prince who will wine & dine us, like they all do in the books we read and the films we watch.
I am one of the lucky ones head strong and very self sufficient with a full time job, husband and four children who realises that life is not always easy and sometimes life can be very hard work. I do get wined and dined but not all the time and bunches of flowers are for special occasions I realise what is important and that is never going to be bought of any shelf.

I think that parents and schools have a role to play in making children realise that not all that is portrayed in books and TV is what happens in real life.  Maybe with a better understanding of both the good and the bad we wouldn’t have so many youngsters self harming feeling the are not adequate for the look that society now expects.
