As much use as a chocolate teapot....Kirklees council leaders propose drafting 52 extra community support officers bringing the number up to 68 saying that it is going to make the local population feel safer. Clr Khizar Iqbal, Cabinet member with responsibility for safer communities says: "The presence on the streets of PCSOs plays a vital role in promoting community safety, reducing crime and the fear of crime, and combating anti-social behaviour.
"Feeling safe on the streets is one of the top concerns of our residents, and one of our top priorities." He said the cost of each PCSO (police community support officer) to the council would be about £6,500 a year, "which seems good value for money to me."
Why are we being denied properly trained police officers to patrol our streets and is it really just down to cost and has nothing to do with what the public really want or need? |
